Flux Director

Raised on a hedonistic diet of west coast beach culture, this child of the 80's dreamed of being a child of the 60's free love, 'tittyswinging' and pinball.

Dickinson eventual found solace in the ever freeing mind of late "Zap Comik" cartoonist, Rick Griffen, and subsequently his feet as a surf comic artist at the age of 15. Securing his first full time animation gig at the age of 18, he got a strong grounding of animation principles, storytelling and design, working in TV animation for the likes of Disney, and Warner Brothers.

It wasn’t until he arrived at flux five years ago that he really found his feet and was able to stamp a somewhat provocative style on the world of film and advertisement. Dickinson first directing gig - a viral campaign for Dominate Hair - exposed his flair and love of tackling the "not so safe" category of ad work. His Dominate work won an 'AWARD' for best in craft and being nominated for a Cannes Lion among others.

Since then, he has toned down the sleaze and directed campaigns in both 2D and 3D for the New Zealand Fire Service, Westpac Bank, and most recently the short film entitled It Was a Dark and Silly Night. The short was made in conjunction with American partners, Stephen Charles Jaffe and Oscar winning producer Leslie Chilcott, and is currently making its way around the world on the international film circuit.

Ultimately, unwilling to face the facts that he has a beautiful loving wife, good friends, and a great family, Laban still insists on living in his head, on the page and in through his animation - you’re welcome to visit.
