Drawing as soon as he could grasp a pencil followed by years of sketches and graffiti on books, bags and anything else in range suggests that illustrator and director Shane Taylor was destined to be a skilled and creative artist.
Taylor studied commercial and graphic design in New Zealand and, on graduation, secured work with ease as a freelance illustrator. He progressed into animation in 1991, making shows for some big name studios. Learning from animation master and pioneering legend John Ewing (Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, Sleeping Beauty) gave Taylor a strong grasp of the traditional principles of animation as well as an advanced sense of character design, animation and movement.
Taylor spent four years in Tokyo (his beautiful Japanese wife's home town) working on interactive game development, Japanese feature films and a number of high profile animated television series. With an impressive 50 major episodes under his belt he returned with his family to New Zealand. At Flux, Taylor is a leading animation director crafting 2D and 3D commercials for local and international clients. He is also actively developing concepts for television and feature film projects.
Taylor's work displays a strong, imaginative, graphical style that was influenced by his time working in Asia. His take on contemporary is balanced with a subtle endearing sense of humour, a combination that brings depth and interest to his work.
